Sous Vide Water Oven is a Great Chef's Gift

Sous Vide Supreme Demi Water Oven, Black, SVD-00101

What is a Sous Vide Water Oven?

A sous vide water oven is an appliance that cooks food in vacuum sealed bags in their own juices.

Meat or vegetables you want to cook are placed in a bag, seasonings (if desired) are added, then the bag is sealed and placed in the water oven. The oven is filled with water and cooks the food inside the bag.

The temperature is precisely controlled, so that there is no possibility of burned food. According to all reports, meats cooked in a water oven is tender and delicious.

However, since there is no roasting or searing, meat tends to come out of the oven a bit pale, which some people complain about, but the food is sealed inside the vacuum bag, there is no loss of flavor or nutrients. If browning is desired, a quick grill in the pan takes care of that issue.

The water oven is about the size of a bread machine, and since there is no food touching the inside of the oven during cooking, cleanup is a breeze. Just wait till the water cools, then pour it out and wipe the oven dry.

The main downside to the water oven is that you have to have a vacuum sealing machine, such as the FoodSaver, too, for it to work.

The cost of the vacuum bags might increase the cost of the meal slightly, but it can be offset by using lower priced cuts of meat. Even meats that generally are tough are tender when cooked in the water oven. The sous vide water oven is a great gift for a chef.

The SousVide Supreme is the first water oven designed to bring the gourmet sous vide cooking method into your home.

Because the food is cooked in a vacumn packed bag, Sous vide cooking locks in the flavor and preserves the nutritional quality. The taste and texture is wonderful.

Steak is perfectly cooked edge-to-edge. Vegetables retain all their nutrients. Whatever you are cooking, you will enjoy the delicious results.

Vacuum-Sealing Appliance for Use with the Sous Vide Water Oven

FoodSaver 2-Speed Vacuum Sealer

To cook with a sous vide water oven, you will also need a vacuum-sealing appliance. This vacuum-sealing appliance senses the bag and food type and vacuums out the air to create an air-tight seal. Not only is the FoodSaver good for vacuum sealing food for the sous vide oven, it works great for food storage, too.

Food stays fresh up to five times longer than plastic wraps and foils. The likelihood of freezer burn is reduced, helping to eliminate wasted food. You can use the unit to freeze pre-made dinners to reheat or to keep left-overs in the refridgerator for later.

With built-in roll storage and a cutter, an automatic liquid detection sensor to prevent spills, a canister mode, and a marinate mode that infuses food with flavor, this unit is perfect for the home kitchen.

Everything you need to use it right out of the box is included: 10-foot roll of 11-inch-wide bag material, 22-foot roll of 8-inch-wide bag material, 5 1-quart bags, 5 1-gallon bags, a Lunch & Leftover container, a Sandwich & Snack container, a 2-1/2-quart quick marinator, and a 1-1/2-quart rectangular canister with a cheese grater. This is a great buy for your own kitchen, and makes a great gift, too!

The FoodSaver: Every Kitchen Needs a Vacuum Food Sealer

FoodSaver Vacuum Sealing System
Our FoodSaver Saves Us Money!

We bought our first FoodSaver vacuum food sealer several years ago.

My husband and I like to buy food in large quantities, such as whole pork loins, and save it in meal sized portions.

Using this small kitchen appliance, we have never had meat freezer burn or ruin in the freezer.

It's great for freezing fruits and veggies, too! We enjoy buying vegetables at the farmer's market in basket size quantities.

When we were using zipper bags, we lost a lot of food to freezer burn, so the it really is a food saver for us, and a money saver, too!

Whether we are saving casseroles, veggies, cheese or raw meats (don't reuse bags if you freeze raw meats in them), this is the kitchen tool we use.

Even shredded cheese works in the vacuum bags. When you open the bag, just shake the contents a bit to get the shredded cheese pieces to break back apart.

Vacuum Sealer: Food Storage

Shipping, Mailing, or Storing

Sometimes, I send items such as sewing patterns or clothing through the mail. If delivered while it is raining, the envelope can get wet, causing damage to the item.

One way I can avoid this is to vacuum seal what I am mailing. This keeps out moisture, and helps prevent damage due to rain, and will protect the item even if the envelope is dropped in the mud.

I tend to purchase a lot of fabric. Whether I actually get around to sewing it is questionable, but I know the fabric will stay clean, moisture proof, and moths and mildew can't get to it when it is vacuum sealed.

The FoodSaver vacuum system saves more than just food.

The Valuable, Versatile Vacuum Sealer

Toy Storage

Do you rotate your child's toys throughout the year? A friend of mine has four distinct sets of toys for her children, one set for each season. It keeps the children from getting too tired of the toys they have in their toybox, and gives them something different to play with for each quarter of the year.

The other toys are kept safely stored in custom sized vacuum bags to keep bugs and dust out. This is also a good way to store your child's toys as they outgrow them so that their own children will have them to play with someday.
