Sous Vide Water Oven is a Great Chef's Gift

What is a Sous Vide Water Oven?

A sous vide water oven is an appliance that cooks food in vacuum sealed bags in their own juices.

Meat or vegetables you want to cook are placed in a bag, seasonings (if desired) are added, then the bag is sealed and placed in the water oven. The oven is filled with water and cooks the food inside the bag.

The temperature is precisely controlled, so that there is no possibility of burned food. According to all reports, meats cooked in a water oven is tender and delicious.

However, since there is no roasting or searing, meat tends to come out of the oven a bit pale, which some people complain about, but the food is sealed inside the vacuum bag, there is no loss of flavor or nutrients. If browning is desired, a quick grill in the pan takes care of that issue.

The water oven is about the size of a bread machine, and since there is no food touching the inside of the oven during cooking, cleanup is a breeze. Just wait till the water cools, then pour it out and wipe the oven dry.

The main downside to the water oven is that you have to have a vacuum sealing machine, such as the FoodSaver, too, for it to work.

The cost of the vacuum bags might increase the cost of the meal slightly, but it can be offset by using lower priced cuts of meat. Even meats that generally are tough are tender when cooked in the water oven. The sous vide water oven is a great gift for a chef.

FoodSaver 2-Speed Vacuum Sealer

To cook with a sous vide water oven, you will also need a vacuum-sealing appliance. This vacuum-sealing appliance senses the bag and food type and vacuums out the air to create an air-tight seal. Not only is the FoodSaver good for vacuum sealing food for the sous vide oven, it works great for food storage, too.

Food stays fresh up to five times longer than plastic wraps and foils. The likelihood of freezer burn is reduced, helping to eliminate wasted food. You can use the unit to freeze pre-made dinners to reheat or to keep left-overs in the refridgerator for later.

With built-in roll storage and a cutter, an automatic liquid detection sensor to prevent spills, a canister mode, and a marinate mode that infuses food with flavor, this unit is perfect for the home kitchen.

Everything you need to use it right out of the box is included: 10-foot roll of 11-inch-wide bag material, 22-foot roll of 8-inch-wide bag material, 5 1-quart bags, 5 1-gallon bags, a Lunch & Leftover container, a Sandwich & Snack container, a 2-1/2-quart quick marinator, and a 1-1/2-quart rectangular canister with a cheese grater. This is a great buy for your own kitchen, and makes a great gift, too!
