Should You Take Extra Clothes for Baby? Diaper Bag Essentials

Carters 5-Piece Diaper Bag Set

Diaper Bag Essentials: Be Prepared for Minor Mishaps

When my children were babies, I carried at least two changes of clothes, even if I just went to the grocery store.

When my grandchildren were babies, my daughter sometimes forgot to replinish the diaper bag. Or she thought she was just going to the store and would return soon, so there was no need.

On one occasion, I met her at the store. She had another errand to run, so I offered to keep my four-month-old granddaughter. Diaper bag in tow, we left the store.

On the way to the car, my granddaughter's diaper malfunctioned. Her clothes were all messy. After cleaning her up and changing her diaper, I looked for a change and there wasn't one.

I had to take a diapered baby back into the store to purchase an outfit for her before I could continue to my destination. Actually, I bought two outfits--experience is a great teacher!

Don't Forget to Take Extra Changes!

It is always fun to show off a new baby to family and friends. It's not so much fun to have your sweet baby spit up on her new fancy baby clothes and have nothing pretty for her to wear.

While fancy dresses are not necessary for everyday wear, anytime you are going somewhere where your baby needs to be dressed up, you need to remember that accidents happen. Babies spit up and diapers leak, among other small disasters.

If you are going to a wedding or family party, why not take two or more dresses with you? You can take several different dresses. If you are going to a wedding, you can take two or more of the same dress--no one will know that accidents happened. Your baby will stay fresh and her dress will stay beautiful.

"Be Prepared!" is not just a scout motto. It should be the rule of thumb for all mothers, too. Are you prepared?
