Gray (Grey) Kitchen Appliances and Accessories

Grey (or is it gray?) kitchen appliances and accessories work well in almost any kitchen, regardless of the color of the walls, curtains, or flooring.

Grey is a neutral color, so it does not distract from the colorful rooster curtains or floral curtains you might have on kitchen windows.

There are a large variety of grey kitchen utencils, tools, and appliances to choose from, so you are only limited by your budget when it comes to kitchen decorating ideas.

A great kitchen design idea for kitchen walls is a very soft light gray paint, which gives a wonderful backdrop for other colors. Larger stainless steel appliances such as refrigerators and ranges also work well with gray kitchens.

Colorful accents, such as bright curtains, quilted wall hangings, pot holders and kitchen towels can be easily changed for a splash of color--perfect for someone who enjoys kitchen makeovers on a regular basis.

A friend of mine changes her kitchen with the season. With neutral colors for appliances and walls, she uses green accents in the spring (which might be primarily leaves or plants, or could be John Deere, depending on her mood), yellow in the summer (daffodils or sunflowers), orange and red in the fall (roosters or fall leaves), and blues in the winter (florals or abstracts).

If you like making changes to your living spaces often, a neutral color in the background makes these changes easier and less expensive. When looking for kitchen decorating ideas, especially for small kitchens, consider using gray as the basic color.

Gray Kitchen Ideas

Gray is considered a
conservative color:
dignified, sleek, refined,
and authoritative.

The Meaning of the Color Gray (Grey)

The color gray or grey has many connotations. The correct spelling of the word depends on where you are and which English you are using. American English spells the word G-R-A-Y, while UK Enblish spells the word G_R_E_Y.

Whichever way you prefer to spell it, gray is a strong neutral color with much symbolism in it. For instance a gray thought is a sad thought, a gray day is a dreary day, but a gray suit is dignified, conservative, and authoritative.

According to SensationalColor.com, "Gray is the color of intellect, knowledge, and wisdom. It is perceived as long-lasting, classic, and often as sleek or refined." Perhaps, it is no wonder that so many business suits come in shades of gray.

Gray is both a color of mourning
and a color of formality.
