Cowgirl Boots for my Daughter

When my daughter was a teenager, all she wanted was a pair of ladies cowgirl boots. That wasn't surprising, since she was a central Texas girl dating a real-life cowboy.

She didn't want fancy designs or colors. She wanted grey Justin Roper Boots that would go with anything, slacks, pants, or prairie skirt.

Justin ropers affordable, quality cowboy and cowgirl boots provide the famous comfort of the traditional cowhands boot, but are not so ornate that they are only to be worn with western clothes.

In fact, the best outfit she had at the time was a dark brown pullover sweater, a brown and grey print prairie skirt, concho belt, and her grey boots. I quite often regret that I never got a picture of her dressed in that outfit, since it really looked stunning on her.

These days, affordable women's western boots come in a huge variety of colors, styles, and leathers. Everything from ostrich to snakeskin is used in making western boots.

They are worn by real cowgirls in rodeos and want-to-be cowgirl city slickers. The western style, though most designers will tell you it OUT, is always in style--especially in Texas, Oklahoma, Arizona, Montana, and Wyoming.

Western boots are an item you need to try at least once. Most people I know stay with them, once they have a pair. Comfort and durability go a long way, when shoes and boots are so expensive.

Cowboy Boots

The story goes about a little boy who grew up on a farm, always wanting a pair of cowboy boots.

His parents, though, were very poor, and could not afford to buy them for him.

One day his wealthy cousin, who lived in the city, came to visit.

The city boy said he had just received a new pair of boots for his birthday, and he brought his old pair for his cousin to have. They were beat up and old, but the little farm boy tried them on, and they were just the perfect fit, and he would be proud as a peacock to have those old boots. However, the two boys decided to take a hike through the pasture, and the cousin wanted to wear the boots one last time.

As they went on their walk, they came to a puddle of water, and the boy splashed, and stomped and walked through the water in the old boots.

When they returned to the farmhouse, they had the idea of putting the boots in the oven of the kitchen stove to dry them out. It dried the boots out all right, but it shrunk and shriveled them up so that they were no longer good for anything, but to be thrown away.

The little boy’s father, realizing the great disappoint his son felt, took a part-time job in the feed store in the in the little town close to where they lived, saved his money, and bought the little boy a brand new pair of cowboy boots.

The little boy was so proud of them that he grew up to be a boot maker, making boots for all of the celebrities and rodeo performers. They say when the boot maker died as a very old man, a special coffin was designed and built for him in the shape of a boot, and that he was buried in it, and his tombstone reads R.I.B, “Rest In Boots.”

I can’t vouch for the truth of the story, but one thing is certain, if it is true, the young boy and the old boot-maker sure had a good idea about what footwear ought to be.

Cowboy boots are comfortable, stylish, and declare that even if the wearer is not a real cowboy in life, he or she is one at heart. There are cowboy boots in different styles, and variegated toe points. There are walking boots, riding boots, and, well, just whatever color or kind suit your fancy.

For comfort, style, whether you are a man or a woman, nothing says louder about the westerner you are at heart than a pair of cowboy or cowgirl boots.

Little Boy Cowboy Boots: Cowboy Boots for Kids

Little Boys Cowboy Boots: My Son and His Boots

When my son was very small, he begged for little boy's cowboy boots every time we went to the store.

His dad had a pair that my son liked to put on and stumble through the house in.

He was so cute trying to walk in boots that came up to his hips.

We purchased him a pair cowboy boots for kids for his birthday. Tan with gold colored thread outlining the western boot pattern on the shaft, the boots were much easier for him to walk in than his dad's.

Next time we went to his grandmother's house, he insisted on wearing them (of course!) to show all his cousins. The grandparents lived in the country on a property that had at one time been a working farm.

True to the old fashioned belief that nothing should be wasted, gray water from the washing machine and the kitchen sink was routed out to a ditch next to the garden (this is no longer legal in most counties, but was legal at the time). Water from washing clothes and dishes kept the garden irrigated. The vegetables and fruit were good, but the water from the drains had a distinct odor.

While we were there, my son decided to go walking. He was young enough that he was not allowed outside of the fence, but the yard was large, and the fence also enclosed the garden.

When he found the irrigation ditch, he remembered his other grandfather telling him that if you got cowboy bootswet and wore them till they dried, they would fit your feet better.

Swimming in Cowboy Boots

I suppose you can guess at what happened next. When we couldn't find him, we asked his cousins if they knew where he was. "He's swimming," one of the kids said.

He had tried to walk into the water to get his boots wet, but slipped and fell. Since he was already there, already wet, and already in trouble for getting his clothes muddy, he decided to 'swim.'

The ditch was only a few inches deep, but he managed to get mud all over, front and back, top to bottom before we got to him to pull him out.

His grandmother's washing machine got another work out. Using lots of baking soda in the washer, we finally got the awful smell out of his clothes.

Using baking soda, we also got it out of his hair. But the smell never did come out of those boots. It was strong enough that we had to throw them away! Needless to say, he was not happy with mom and dad, since we didn't have the money to buy him another pair for a while.

Girls enjoy wearing cowboy boots (or cowgirl boots,) too. They are especially fun when worn with western skirts and shirts.

I love going to the rodeo and seeing all the kiddos in their western boots and clothes. It reminds me of my own childhood, when almost everyone I knew had western attire.
