Cook a Whole Meal in a Slow cooker
A while back, I was perusing Pinterest (I do that too much!), and found an interesting idea. I couldn't wait to try it.
Someone had posted a link to Hickory Holler Farm's Crock Pot Cooking post. I had heard, and had done, full casserole type meals in the crock pot, but the idea of layering foil wrapped food in a crockpot had never occurred to me.
I tried it with a chicken and rice recipe in the bottom of the crock pot, a layer of foil, then foil wrapped potatoes, then foil wrapped buttered carrots. After everything was prepared, I set the crock pot on low and cooked for 8 hours.
The potatoes and carrots were tender; the chicken and rice was delicious. Even my husband loved it, and he doesn't usually care for foods cooked in the crockpot.
I will be using this technique again and again.
