Moms Best Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream Recipe: Electric Ice Cream Maker Freezers

A guest post by Charles Pogue
Part 2

While I prefer the hand crank models, it is important to note that White Mountain has four and six quart freezers in electric models, too.

They are reasonably priced given the quality and history behind these freezers. Replacement electric motors are available if you damage your motor, too!

Nostalgia has the better of me, and since I could use the exercise, I believe I will order the hand crank model. If I just had dad’s old ax and tow sack, my reminiscences would be complete.

  •  4 eggs separated 2 cups sugar
  •  1/8 tsp. salt ¼ c. corn starch
  •  ½ cup milk
  •  1 quart milk
  •  3 tsp. vanilla
  •  1 can sweetened condensed milk
  •  1 can whole milk (measured in sweetened condensed milk can)
Mix sugar, salt, cornstarch and ½ cup milk, then add 1 quart milk. Boil and mix until thickened. Then add egg yolk and beat in slowly. Return to heat and boil again. Take off heat. Add vanilla. Fold in egg whites beaten. Add 2 cans milk and add more whole milk as needed.

For strawberry, peach or blueberry ice cream, add two cups of chopped or mashed fruit to the ice cream mixture.

Wooden hand-crank and electric
ice cream freezers make good gifts
for almost any occasion!

Do you prefer a hand crank or an electric ice cream freezer?
