Garden Time

It's garden time again. Last year, we got started, then got sick and didn't finish. This year, we are starting earlier. Tomatoes are in, next are peppers and lettuce.

Last November, we started eating more vegetables and fruits and less meat. At the same time, we virtually stopped eatting junk food such as candy, cookies, ice cream, chips, etc. We both feel better, and have both lost a lot of weight (over 150 lbs between us). This is the reason the garden is so much more exciting to us this year than before.

We still have plans to plant yellow squash, zucchini, radishes, lima beans, green beans, pinto beans, spinach, cauliflower, broccoli, okra, and brussel sprouts (haven't been able to convince my husband we need to plant corn-he says it takes too much room). Can't wait till harvest time. I hope to have a dehydrator by then so that we can dehydrate and store what I don't have room for in the freezer. We are also planning to do some canning this year.

I am considering having a smaller, square foot garden closer to the house for salad greens, but I haven't yet decided for sure.

Do you have garden plans this year?
